Q: Air Conditioning?

A: No, however there are ceiling fans and additional fans can be provided upon request.

Q: Are meals included?

A: No, rates for Kama'aina Inn do not include any meals. 

Q: Are there established quiet hours? 

A: Yes, we ask that guests maintain quiet hours between 9pm and 8am. 

Q: Are you able to accommodate groups? 

A: Yes, our Inn is perfectly suited to accommodate groups up to 12 as the shared central lanai is a perfect place to congregate or socialize.  

Q: Do I need to have an ID to check in? 

A: Yes, you must present a valid government ID or passport in order to check in. 

Q: Do you allow pets?

A: No, we cannot accommodate pets. Service animals are permitted with proper documentation. 

Q: Do you charge a cleaning fee?    

A: A one-time cleaning fee of $25 is charged for each reservation. 

Q: Do you have bicycle storage? 

A: Yes, we have an area inside the security gate where guests may store their bicycles. 

Q: Do you have WiFi? 

A: Yes, and it is complimentary. 

Q: Do you offer a discount for extended stays? 

A: At this time we do not offer this type of discount. 

Q: Do you offer any discounts for Kama'aina? 

A: Yes, we offer a 15% discount to Hawaii residents. Please click "Rates" on the right for more details. 

Q: Is it possible to take public transportation to the Inn? 

A: Yes please call the Hele-On bus program at 808-961-8744 to plan your trip on Hawaii Island's public transit. We are located about two blocks from the Mo'oheau Bus Terminal in Downtown Hilo 

Q: Is there onsite laundry? 

A: No, however there is a laundromat on the same block so laundering is quite convenient.  

Q: Is there someone on the premises? 

A: Yes, the Owner/Manager of Kama'aina Inn lives on the property. 

Q: May I bring an additional guest? 

A: Any guests exceeding the occupancy of the reservation must be registered with us and must pay the additional guest fee of $20 per person. Unregistered guests are not permitted on the grounds of Kama'aina Inn. 

Q: May I check in after 7pm? 

A: Check-in is only available between 3pm and 7pm NO EXCEPTIONS. Guests who have not checked in by 7pm will be considered a no-show and will NOT receive a refund. 

Q: May I come early to drop my bags off? 

A: Yes, but you must give us advance notice of your expected time to drop off. We will secure your bags in the office area until you return later. 

Q: May I reserve without a credit or debit card? 

A: No, we cannot accept reservations without a valid credit or debit card. 

Q: What are the check-in hours? 

A: Guests may check-in anytime between 3pm and 7pm. We cannot make exceptions at this time. 

Q: What is the cancellation policy? 

A: We allow a full refund if cancelled by email 30 days prior to reservation date; prior to 14 days of your arrival a refund of your entire payment less a 10% cancellation fee; and cancellations less than 14 days of arrival will forfeit your entire payment. Late arrivals, No shows, or early departures will be charged the full length of reservation. Reservations may be rescheduled by email without penalty prior to 14 days if rooms are available. 

 

Q: What is the minimum age for reservations? 

A: Guests must be at least 18 years of age or otherwise accompanied by a parent or guardian. 

Q: What is there to do in the area? 

A: Kama'aina Inn is one of the few lodging options that is located in Downtown Hilo. There are countless restaurants, shops, and galleries in the neighborhood. The Palace Theater is a few blocks away showing great live performances as well as films. Every, Wednesday and Saturday the Hilo Market comes alive with souvenirs and local produce. We have no doubt that you will find many activities to enjoy your time here in Downtown Hilo. 

Q: Where do I park? 

A: Parking at Kama'aina Inn is on the surrounding streets. There is no parking charge or permit required. Please pull up in front of the accordion gate that is directly in front of the Inn when you arrive and put your hazard lights on while you unload your belongings and check in. We will give you suggestions on nearby areas with ample street parking once inside. Then you will be able to move your vehicle to an overnight spot (usually within one city block of the Inn).
